Full Load

May 23rd, 2009

Just took a ride with the full load and no motor, went up the baddest hill in the neighborhood, and remembered the gentle tug of a fully loaded trailer. Going to be an interesting couple of days while I get into a rhythm…

Here is the load

A Load of Literature

May 23rd, 2009

Packing, thought I’d share part of the original load,

Top left is a most excellent surprise care package from Ed Vallejo and Freedoms Phoenix. Top Center is a care package from Kathy88 in PA (who also sent some back-up Mack books . Top Right is a classy care package from Allison and Jesse @ CFL. The Sheriff Mack books and Committee of Safety DVD, that you all are buying for this are mid right/left. At the bottom is homegrown handout. Interspersed are things I’ve picked up along the way.

All of these things have ultimately been bought with the time and treasure of you guys, pure grassroots.

Special shout out to Allison Gibbs, of CfL, for bearing the brunt of my anxiety regarding getting this starting load into my hands, (which finally completed just an hour or so ago – phew)

An Update From Arizona

May 21st, 2009

An update from AZ

Quote:
…Ok, here’s the kicker. I am contemplating riding along with Michael across Arizona. I think it would be a great Media Opportunity (even if it kills me ) and I can also spread the message about Continental Congress 2009, END THE FED, and THE PHOENIX R3VOLUTION, among other things.

I see by the Calendar that there is a ‘Road Trip’ into New Mexico at juuuust the right time to converge these two Projects into one. Jeanne – get with me and we’ll brainstorm on this idea.

ONE LAST THING. Michael wants to meet with every Sheriff of every county he passes through, and give a copy of Sheriff Mack’s book “The County Sheriff – America’s Last Hope” and Ron Paul’s “Revolution Manifesto” to them. We need someone in Apache, Navajo, Coconino, and Mohave Counties to contact their Sheriff, and possibly set up a meetinng with Michael on his route. He also has a packet to give to the Governor, and would like someone to receive it from him and promise to deliver it to Governor Brewer.

As usual – much to do, and little time to do it in!

Such is the life of an Activist…

Ed
Quote:
Awesome Ed said he is going to go and last time I checked, I have never pedaled across Arizona before. So it looks like I am going to do it as well. Who knows I might even go all the way to San Francisco. It would make for an interesting trip. So Ed sign me up I’m in. Looks like only 340 miles should be a walk in the park. Ed I suggest you get a bike and start riding to prepare for this. Make sure the bike you get has a good seat! Else you might live to regret going.

The LibertyRider Flagstaff

May 19th, 2009

I’ve been rigging the bike the last two days. Thought I’d share the significance of some of the flags I’ve chosen (in addition to the Gadsden and American.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Bedford Flag
The Bedford Flag
At the base of the stack is The Bedford Flag; legend has that it was flown at Concord Bridge; the very first flag flown by Americans in defense of Liberty. Here are some excerpts from a history of The Bedford Flag:
The Bedford Flag is the oldest complete flag known to exist in the United States. It is celebrated as the flag carried by the Bedford Minuteman, Nathaniel Page, to the Concord Bridge on April 19, 1775, the beginning of the American Revolution, but it was already an antique on that day.
The flag was still in the custody of the Page family at the time of the American Revolution, and it is believed in Bedford that Minuteman Nathaniel Page took it with him to the battle at Concord. Nathaniel told the story to his grandson, Cyrus, and it was written down after his death by the nineteenth century historian, Abram English Brown. This account says:
“On the arrival of the [Bedford] Company at Concord, they assisted in removing the stores to places of greater safety. Tradition says that Cornet Nathaniel Page laid down his flag and went to work, and when returning to look for it ‘found the boys had got it and were playing soldiers.’” He took it up and went to face the British regulars at the North Bridge.
In 1838, the battle at the North Bridge was vividly memorialized by the poet Ralph Waldo Emerson in his famous Concord Hymn:
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.
I chose it in honor of the countless veterans who have fought, and died, to maintain my birthright, and to remind me of the duty to their memory.
First Continental Regiment Flag
First Continental Regiment Flag
Above the Bedford is The First Continental Regiment Flag. This flag represents the evolution of grassroots r3VOLution. Here is some history that I think explains why. It starts with the Latin:
Domari Nolo “I Refuse to be Subjugated”
And man o man did they ever refuse to be subjugated. These guys were everywhere. They were important in Washington’s siege of Boston. They stayed behind and were the last to leave after covering the main army’s dangerous nick of time retreat from Long Island. They crossed the Delaware with Washington. They were “at Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, and every major skirmish, and battle all the way to Yorktown.1″ where they fought “the most important part of the siege” according to General Steuben. They saw Cornwallis surrender at Yorktown and this flag was there. These guys saw action in every one of the original 13 colonies.
They were everywhere, fighting passionately, just like us…
Next is what is Known as The Washington’s Cruiser Flag. There is no historical significance in my choice of this flag. And that speaks volumes.
For those who are interested in the history of the flag you can look here
To me, this flag represents the moral high ground, and reminds me of the value of place. It reminds me of who I am and humbly voices a feeling which has echoed through the ages…
Members of the Pennsylvania Campaign for Liberty want YOU!! Please join us on Memorial Day,
May 25th from 4:00 – 9:00 at the Warwick County Park in Central/Southeastern PA. In addition to honoring those patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, this will be a celebration of freedom, and all of our effort over the last year.
Our guest of honor will be the Liberty Rider, Michael Maresco, who is now preparing for his next cross country bicycle ride. This park is along Michael’s bike route, and will be a welcome stop at the end of day two of his sixty three day journey. For GPS purposes, the park is located at 191 County Park Road, Knauertown, PA (possibly Pottstown in your GPS). If you have looked at the “Ride for Honesty” map, it is around the 56-58 mile marker in Pennsylvania. We will be at Pavilion #2.
Come on out, bring the family, every C4L member that you know, anyone who loves liberty, and anyone who loves a good old fashion Memorial Day Cookout! There are charcoal grills on-site. My wife and I will bring burgers, dogs, a little hot sausage, and buns (And make sure the guest of honor finds us). Bring enough to feed your crew and share a little. It is technically a “dry” park, so use discretion. We are all adults and responsible for our own behavior. Please RSVP on the event calendar, so we can have a rough estimate for the total head count.
Ron Paul, Liberty Rider, Campaign for Liberty signs and banners a must!
Thanks, Rob :)
Zen and The Art of Pedaling a Bicycle
May 17th, 2009
Well, 7 days out. Will be six before many people read this.
Time to start the journal.
I’d like to get one thing out of the way right off the bat, and it may surprise a few of you, but I am not a cyclist.
In fact, I am not even much of a fitness buff, at all. I’ve never been to a gym, haven’t formerly exercised since High School, and before the Ride for Ron Paul, had never owned a road bike, nor pedaled more than a few miles in any one direction. So, though I’ve quite a bit of experience pedaling, now, I am still not a cyclist.
This surprises plenty of people I meet. Many think I just took something I enjoy and worked it into a political event. The truth of the matter is that I was watching too many people debating tactics/philosophy online and not enough posting evidence of taking those tactics to the street. So I decided to do something outrageous, so far outside of my “box” that even the most timid supporter might look and say, well if that Hawaiian guy can pedal a bike across the country for freedom, I can go knock on my neighbors door.
And it worked.
That remains the greatest satisfaction from the last ride. Not the thrill of finishing, not the celebrity it brought me, not even meeting and riding with Ron Paul. The greatest satisfaction I get from that ride is the testimony of people I meet, who tell me that the effort encouraged them to step out of their own box, and opened up a whole new world of effective activism to them. That is how I judge success. To me, there is little difference between approaching that first mountain range, and approaching their first door. Both are equally intimidating in the eyes of the beholder. Getting to the top of that first range, or walking away from that first door, is a watershed moment for most. When we realize that we CAN do this. With a little bit of courage, and a  LOT of determination we can do things we never dreamed. And that is how we will take back control of our government. Persistence, determination, and a little bit of courage. It may not be sexy, and may not even be much fun, but it certainly is satisfying at the end of the day. Knowing you did everything in your power to advance the cause of liberty and leave a better world than we were born into. Indeed, it truly is not, whether we win or lose, but how we play the game.
So, well wishers tell me how much fun I’ll be having. And yes, I will enjoy meeting all of you on the route, I will enjoy seeing the light turn on behind peoples eyes as I pitch the ideas of the r3VOLution to them, I will, also, enjoy some of the beautiful scenery this great country has to offer. I’m sure I will laugh and sing with new met friends, and that will be fun, but pedaling? No, sorry, that is not much fun at all. It is hot, dirty, and dangerous on the roads I’ll be traveling. It takes enormous concentration to watch ahead for pitfalls and tube shredders. The bike seat becomes harder with each passing mile, my knees start talking to me, and on long days they start yelling. No, I do not expect to have a ton of fun on this trip, but the satisfaction of hearing one person explain that the effort encouraged them to find such determination in themselves, that to me is priceless.
Now, back to the title of this post. What I do enjoy, while pedaling, is the chance to think, to meditate on all I’ve learned and experienced, and focus my mind on ways to further our cause. Pedaling is kind of mindless, it just takes a sharp eye, a good ear, and a steady pace. When my mind is free to ponder, not clouded by the online noise and incessant calls for help from all corners, I am better able to discern the culture of the area I am in and tailor my message to suit.  And by being out there, talking to people outside our circles, I know the circles grow.
And that is why I do it.
GO GRASSROOTS!!!
New Meetup Group formed for Ride for Honesty!
May 17th, 2009
Welcome to the Ride for Honesty!
This cross country bicycle trek is inspired by the boundless enthusiasm of the American People for freedom, justice, tolerance, and charity.
Mike Maresco, the Ron Paul Rider, rode his bicycle across the country in 2007, inspired by the growing need for Freedom in America. Along the way, he met many liberty activists, and had the chance to ride with Ron Paul for 10 miles around his home in Lake Jackson, TX. In 2008, he co-sponsored the Great American Walk for Freedom, a 280 mile journey of freedom and brotherhood from Green Bay, Wisconsin to Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is back in 2009 for another ambitious cross country trek. His theme this time is America: Freedom to Fascism, inspired by the popular film by the prophetic film maker Aaron Russo. Michael’s choice of start and finish for his journey is related to his theme – from New York City’s Statue of Liberty (Freedom) to San Francisco’s Alcatraz Island (Fascism).
The Ride for Honesty begins May 24 in NYC and ends July 22 in California.
The official website is www.rideforhonesty.com
